Optimism Beyond the Problems: BRICS Higher Education Cooperation from a Chinese Perspective

Multilateral cooperation in higher education among BRICS countries has been under way for 7 years, since 2013. Scholars have different views and judgments, some positive optimistic, negative pessimistic, regarding the significance, progress prospects of (BRICS HEC). What are judgments participants from Chinese universities? This question not yet answered due to a lack relevant empirical research. To answer this question, six experts universities who involved organizing or/and researching HEC were interviewed study. The study found that clearly recognized necessity significance HEC. They identified main achievements cooperation, including establishment two platforms (i.e., Network University League) development series collaborations student exchanges also pointed out existing problems, such as difficulty achieving multilateral establishing mutual recognition credits qualifications, insufficient enthusiasm potential participants. Despite these five evaluated positively optimistic about its prospects. contrasted with obstacles pessimistic expectations dominant previous studies, indicating is only supported by government but accepted constitutes an important driving force sustainable future.
